Paraproctitis can be caused by the penetration of bacteria into the tissues around the rectum, trauma, or other inflammatory conditions in this area.

Diagnosis includes a doctor's examination, blood tests, ultrasound, and rectal examination.

Treatment may include antibiotics, local pain relievers, and surgery to drain a pus-filled cyst.

Prevention includes maintaining hygiene in the anal area, avoiding trauma, and seeking prompt medical attention when symptoms appear.
