What is Furunculosis?
Description of the disease
Furunculosis is an acute purulent infection of the hair follicle and surrounding tissues. It is characterized by the formation of painful redness, swelling, and pus. Boil occurs when bacteria infect the hairy part of the skin.
Classification
Surface furuncle: affects the hair follicle and adjacent tissue.
Deep furuncle: affects the dermis and subcutaneous adipose tissue.
Symptoms
Red swelling resembling a solid lump.
Pain when touched.
Presence of pus.
General malaise.
Causes
Furunculosis is caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, which penetrates through damaged skin.
Diagnostics
The diagnosis of furunculosis is usually based on physical examination and symptoms. If necessary, a bacteriological examination of secretions may be performed.
Treatment
Treatment may include the use of antiseptics, local antibiotics, and, if necessary, surgical opening of the furuncle. A course of antibiotics may be prescribed in the case of recurrence or complications.
